FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
The NDIS funds reasonable and necessary supports related to a person’s disability so they can take part in everyday life and pursue goals. This can include personal care, daily living and household help, community participation, transport to activities, employment support, aids/equipment, and some home or vehicle modifications. (The NDIS won’t fund day-to-day living costs that everyone has, like rent or groceries.)
You receive an individual plan and budget designed around your goals, giving you choice and control over who supports you and when. With the right supports—skills building, community access, transport, or help at home—you can increase independence, confidence, social connections, study/work options, and overall quality of life.
The NDIS is a lifetime insurance scheme. If you remain eligible, you stay in the scheme. Your plan period is typically 12 months (sometimes longer) and is reviewed to make sure your supports keep matching your needs and goals.
While NDIS funding is for the participant, it can reduce pressure on families and carers by funding supports like personal care, community access, short-term accommodation/respite, and skill development—so families get time to rest, work, or focus on other responsibilities. We also coordinate with your support network and share information so everyone is on the same page.
Check eligibility, then submit an Access Request:

Apply: Call the NDIS on 1800 800 110 or complete an Access Request Form with supporting evidence from your GP/allied health.
Plan meeting: If approved, you’ll have a planning meeting to set goals and decide how to use your budget.
Self-managed: you pay providers directly and claim from the NDIS. Maximum choice/flexibility.
Plan-managed: a plan manager pays invoices for you. You can use registered or unregistered providers.
NDIA-managed (Agency-managed): invoices are paid via the NDIS portal and must be from registered providers.
